This means the building is built upon specially engineered wooden posts (or poles) buried deep in the ground, instead of the traditional stick and frame on a concrete foundation. Buried posts naturally provide excellent support, so they support the weight of the building without the need of an expensive foundation.
With proper care, a pole barn residence could last up to a century. One of the benefits of a pole barn residence is the maintenance costs are lower than a traditional house. It is easier and more cost efficient to maintain a pole barn over time, and with proper maintenance a pole barn could last your lifetime and for generations to come.
While a Barndominium is a great option for many, there are a few things to take into consideration.
1. Not every location will allow you to build a barndominium. You should research your city and county zoning laws to see if a barndominium is permitted.
2. Many banks will not offer a loan for a barndominium, or will offer a loan that does not provide payment on time. Due to the nature of pole barns, they are able to be built very fast – this is great for building but often does not line up with the bank’s payment schedule. This is something to consider as you plan the financing for your new home.
